Summer Learning Journey

The fist settlers to come to New Zealand must have brave! They had to leave their original homes and sail thousands of miles across the ocean on a special boat called a waka to reach New Zealand. To this day people of New Zealand still use waka's. Instead of using their waka to transport them from a place to another, they sometimes use waka's in special events like sports such as Waka Ama. Waka Ama is where boys and girls can compete in competition's.

Should Plastic Bags Be Used At Supermarkets

18/10/17 - Lucy Walt Use Persuasive structure Should Plastic Bags be in Supermarkets? Plastic bags are an issue world wide, they are killing the creatures in our seas, and they and are killing the birds on land.

If you think that paper bags are going to help well you're wrong. Over 14 million trees are being consumed a year. In terms of production, producing plastic bags take 4 times as much energy as paper bags. But over the duration of production paper products will create, oil in our seas and 70% more air pollution.

Burning plastic bags are bad for the ozone layer. It is bad because it will make a whole in the ozone layer causing ultraviolet causing skin cancer and rise of water levels. Did you know that 80% of Americans choose plastic. Plastic bags are photodegradable. This means it takes for a very long time to break down the plastic. The effect of this is that plastic bags may get covered in other garbage causing it to not dissolve so it is stuck there forever.

Imagine you're eating a plastic bag how would you feel? Well first you would not be able to breath, the plastic bag will get stuck in your lungs and you can’t get it out and then you will die. Sounds horrible, well that is what is happening to our sea creatures nearly everyday, if you don’t want that to happen then stop using plastic bags at the supermarket.

Last week in Te Ngahere, we were learning to write a persuasive piece of writing. I think I did well with my ideas to persuade people. Next time I need to work on not putting capital letters in random places. I hope you enjoy my writing.

My Visual Mihi

Last week in Te Ngahere we were trying to learn our morning mihi. Then we got told to get some pictures on a google drawing about the mihi to help us to remember what to say with images. I chose the images I got because the images help me what to say when I do the mihi. The images help me by whenever I may get stuck I can look at my images and straight away know I need to say this next. The visual mihi helps me because my images are really clear and memorable and they are always there for me.

Animals of Brazil Key: Simple sentences, Compound sentences and complex sentences

Brazil there are many native Animals, here are some you will learn about. In Brazil there are jaguars. Unlike many cats, jaguars do NOT avoid water. [In fact they are quite good swimmers.] Also the rivers hold their prey such as, fish, turtles and alligators like animals. Jaguars also eat large animals such as deer, tapir and much more bigger animals. Did you know that Brazil has a Finger Monkey? The Finger Monkey eats the most strangest thing, they eat butterflies they will eat any kind of butterfly it doesn’t matter [at least they get to eat]. Did you know that the Finger Monkey is the world's smallest monkey known to man? Finger Monkeys are not endangered but they are somewhat threatened. If you're a dog and a fox lover this is the dog for you. Brazil has a long legged dog with a fox head it might sound ugly but it is so beautiful. Wildlife experts has classified they are being near threatened species. Theses animals are not dangerous to humans, they have a skittish nature. In conclusion, what was your favorite animal is it the jaguar, or is it the Finger Monkey or was it the fog [AKA Fox Dog]? `

Trouble in space Once upon a time there were three minions called Bob, Stuart and Kevin, which were off on a mission to get a sample of a star. Bob, Stuart and Kevin were lucky because they had their very own private spaceship, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 BLAST OFF. Bob, Stuart and Kevin’s line snapped, so the little minions were floating, floating out to space, while running out of air. But Bob, Stuart and Kevin were lucky because there was also people trying to get a sample of a star, and they saw the minions so they bounced into action. They grabbed the minions and gave them CPR. But these people were not ordinary people because, there was a spider and tiny tiny troll they were the hero’s. But in the end Bob, Stuart and Kevin all survived and got their star sample. The End When they got there, there was an amazing site the minions saw stars the milky way and colours, lots of colours. Then they found it ... they had found a perfect star. So Bob, Stuart and Kevin went out on a line to get a sample of the star. THEN DANGER FELL!!!!!!!

Best School Beach Clean Up

Hi my name is Lucy and I go to Paihia School. My school did a beach clean up, I found heaps of rubbish some girls in my class found 381 smokes on the ground that is a lot and there were 5-8 bottle lids stuck in the ground we had to dig them out it was very hard. We were doing this so all the birds and sea creatures won’t eat all your yuck rubbish and get sick. In my opinion make sure you don’t leave your rubbish on the ground for other people like us to pick them up

I Remember

Image result for dancing jam sandwich gif

I was learning to notice and use someone else's  piece of writing as an exemplar.

Success criteria what you were doing, something that was happening, something you did, why you did it, finish with that was summer or something similar make your writing descriptive- interesting words, verbs and adjectives.

I think I did well on my direction and maybe I could work on putting  similes and alliteration in my story.

Tuesday 7th February

I Remember . . .

Seeing the glistening water,
Making awesome sandcastles,
Seeing people sunbathing in the hot hot sun,
I slither into my togs,
I dive in the water, it was freezing, “dd rrrrrrrr”
I was eating yummy sweet refreshing jam sandwiches, “yum yum”.
Going boogie boarding with my daddy,
it was a relief after I cooled down.
I was freaking out that Crabs were going to snip my toes off,
I love my toes.
That was my Summer.
